All week I've been sharing with you a behind the scenes look at my kitchen remodel. I've shared the BEFORE photos, the reasons I wanted to remodel, and what it was like living through construction. Today I'll share the AFTER photos but first . . .
As a reminder, here's a look at what my kitchen looked like before the project began. Cabinets on each side of the room, an extra cabinet (green) added to increase storage, and a refrigerator that didn't fit in it's space.
And here's a look at the AFTER photo from the same angle. White custom cabinets (with hardware!), quartz countertops and warm maple hardwood flooring. It's light and bright with far more storage (even a pantry!) and I couldn't love it any more than I do. The kitchen also features recessed lighting as well as under cabinet lighting and the cabinets to all of the way to the ceiling and are topped with crown moulding.
One side of the room features a full length pantry, a deep stainless steel sink and lots of counter space. On the far left you can see the new sliding glass door that replaced a large window. There's a nice mix of doors and drawers and also features a pull-down faucet.
The other side of the room has a similar layout to the "old" kitchen except that the stove is now sandwiched between cabinets rather than at the end. Again, there's a mix if doors and drawers.
The door to the garage was moved and still needs a coat of paint; when the storm door is open there's an old fashioned "banging" screen door which will be awesome when the weather is nice. There's a narrower full height cabinet next to the refrigerator which provides a lot of extra storage space.
One of the fixtures I had a hard time finding is the deep, square sink. I found a few different versions online but I really wanted to see one in person. I ended up finding this sink at Menards and I really love it.
As a reminder, here's the view from the dining area looking towards the front door. I wanted to create a better entry with more room for people to enter without trying to balance on a little section of linoleum.
Removing the carpet and caring the wood floor over to the front door makes it feel like an actual entry rather than a door in the living room. The wood floor also goes down the hall (to the right in this photo). The floor that I chose is engineered hardwood in the color "Autumn Maple". The planks are 5" wide and have some grain showing without being too busy.
The countertops are quartz in the color "Pewter" and the backsplash is white subway tile with white grout.
All of the lower cabinets have one pull-out shelf which makes the things in the back much more accessible. All of the pull-out shelves, doors and drawers are soft close which I love.
The upper cabinets have two adjustable shelves. The top shelf is not easy to reach without a stool so I am using them for items that are seldom accessed, and in many cases the top shelf is empty because I have so much more storage space now. I'm a big fan of bowls, so this cabinet is my favorite.
As hard as it was to live through the mess it was all worth it. I'm still getting used to the space, but I already enjoy the time I spend in the kitchen so much more.
Tomorrow I'll wrap up the week by sharing some of the lessons I learned as I went through this process. If you have any questions about the materials I selected please leave a note in the comments and I'll provide the name/source for you.
