Although I love bowls and I love pottery, I've never been a collector of "dishes". I have everyday dishes, wedding china and my grandmother's china, and that's more than enough dishes for me. So, when my Great Aunt asked if I wanted her mother's china (my Great Grandmother), I was hesitant to say yes. Although I wasn't really interested in owning more dishes, I knew that she had already asked other members of the family and they had said no. I knew she was downsizing her home and wanted to pass things on so I said YES. And I'm so glad I did.
I got the dishes last fall but I didn't even open the boxes because I was getting ready for my kitchen remodel and it seemed silly to unpack the dishes only to turn around and pack them back up. So, last week I finally unpacked the dishes and I LOVE THEM.
On Saturday my Aunt came over for lunch and I decided to use the dishes (they belonged to her grandmother). They are so, so pretty and dainty! My Aunt and I enjoyed a casual lunch on fancy dancy dishes and it made our Saturday lunch a special affair.
I dedicated a large drawer in my kitchen to the dishes because I felt like it was safer than putting them on a shelf. I like that they are easy to access and I plan to use them, rather than letting them collect dust in the back of a cabinet. I'm sure that my Great Grandmother would approve.
