While I was cleaning the house over the weekend I was putting away some laundry and got frustrated by how full the drawers were in my dresser. The next thing I knew I was in full organization / decluttering mode, going through every dresser and closet in my house.
There are three bedrooms on the main floor of my house and I have clothes in all of them. I also have three dressers, and they were all full too. However, I feel like I wear the same things all of the time. I decided it was time to get rid of some of the clothes I'm storing but not wearing, and since I was going to be near a Goodwill this week it seemed like a good opportunity to clean house.
As I went through my closets and dressers I used my guest bedroom as my sorting location. If the item was in good condition I folded it and piled it on the bed, and if it was stained, ripped or well worn I threw it in a pile on the floor. I got rid of so much stuff.
Along with clothes I got rid of some decor items, purses, and other miscellaneous stuff. I bagged up everything I wanted to take to Goodwill and the rest went into the garbage.
I still have a lot of things I plan to get rid of in the next month or two. I'm planning to move my craft room from the basement to a spare bedroom on the main floor but before that can happen I need to figure out what to do with some things including some furniture.
I love organizing / decluttering. It feels good to get things out of my house that I'm no longer using, and if I can pass it on to someone that can put it to good use that's even better.
