Even in this age of technology I love using a paper planner. I gave up my wall calendar a few years ago and haven't missed it at all, but I still carry my planner with me every day. As we near the end of 2013 I've been thinking a lot about my 2014 planner.
For the last three years I've been using a planner from Franklin Covey that was given to me by a friend (complete with photos of her kids! And I've kept them in the planner!) because she found that she wasn't using it. It's a six-ring binder, and each year I've purchased planner refill pages for the new year.
There are many things I like about this planner. I like that the inside front cover features a pocket that zips shut along with slip in pockets. I keep lots of things in these pockets and it's one of my favorite features.
I also like the fact that there's room for some additional lined note pages, which I use to list new craft project ideas, blog post ideas, etc. There's also room in the back of the binder (which you can see here behind the lined pages) for a notepad, which you can remove if you want to use just that portion of the binder.
One of my other favorite features is that there's room for a clear pocket page that you can use to store items. I have a drawing my daughter did for me in that pocket, and seeing it there always makes me happy.
One thing I don't like about the planner is that you need to order new tabs each year if you want the calendar on the tabs to be current. In my case I've been using the same tab dividers since 2010, and the calendars on those tabs reflect that.
As you can see, my planner is pretty full, so I appreciate the fact that it has a snap closure that keeps things from falling out. You can also see that my binder cover is pretty dirty and marked up, which is why I decided to purchase a new binder for 2014.
I ordered my new binder, planner pages and monthly tab dividers from Franklin Covey last night, and I can't wait for them to arrive. I ordered a beautiful blue binder cover which will be a nice change of pace. The one I really liked was $110 which was more than I wanted to spend. Instead I ordered a style that costs $39 and I used a promo code for 15% off my entire order. I used another promo code that gave me free shipping. I always look online for promo codes before placing an order; I usually find them by doing a simple search.
One of my traditions is to put my planner together on New Year's Eve, so I bought my new planner sooner than I needed to, but last year I ordered it rather late and some of the items I wanted were out of stock. I'll still save my new planner and work on it December 31st, but by ordering it now I was able to get the exact items I chose.
I'll share photos of my new planner and talk about how I use it once I get it all set up.
