It's good to laugh at yourself sometimes.
One of the best things about my new car, which I bought in May, is that it has remote start. The winters are long and cold here in Minnesota and I often dread leaving work at the end of the day because it's cold + dark outside and I know I'm going to freeze when I leave work.
Having remote start means that when it's cold outside I can start my car from inside my house or office and let it warm up before I head outside. Oh, I love technology!
I was walking out to my car after work one day this week and realized that I haven't even tried the remote start yet. I went ahead and pushed the button on my key and BAM! The doors locked and the car started right up. Cool!
I unlocked the car door, got in and immediately tried to roll down the windows because it was HOT inside (we've had a hot week here). Nothing happened. Then I tried to put the car in drive. Nothing happened. Panic set in. I opened the car door because I started to get claustrophibic and I sat there wondering what to do. I was hoping a co-worker would walk by so I could ask them what to do, but no luck.
I decided to look at the owner's manual to read the directions and try to figure out what I was doing wrong. As I reached for the glove compartment I realized that my car key was in my hand. Light bulb! No wonder nothing in the car worked!
I inserted the key and just like that everything worked. Whew. I had a good laugh and went on my way, crisis averted.
I'm glad I did a practice run; now when the cold weather returns I'll be ready to go.
