March is almost over and that means it's almost time for people to put on their thinking caps and come up with a good April Fool's joke.
When my daughter was around 5 or 6 years old she would wake up early - around 6 a.m. - and come into my room to ask if she could get up. When this first started I would say that she had to come and snuggle with me for a while in the hopes that she would fall asleep and I could get a little more rest.
Before she would crawl into my bed she would need to get Pongo & Perditta (two stuffed dogs from the 1,001 Damlations movie) and her blanket. Then she would need to get all situated which involved lots of tossing & turning and general disruption. Then once she got settled the talking would start.
Eventually I learned that it was best to just let her get up when she asked; she would go into the living room, turn on the tv and color while she watched cartoons. That allowed me to get an extra half hour or so of rest.
On April 1st the year she was six we had gone through that routine and I was dozing in bed with no idea that she had planned an April Fool's joke for me. She went into the kitchen, got a very large glass of cold water and then came into my room and threw the cold water on my face while announcing, "April Fool's"!! She was so proud of herself for coming up with a plan and accomplishing it, and I was so wet.
I couldn't get mad at her because she was just trying to get in on the fun, but it wasn't my favorite way to wake up.
Remember on Monday to stay alert! You never know what surprises may be coming your way.
