Last night I made a pan of bars to bring to a Super Bowl party this afternoon. The bars are my "go to" item for parties and potlucks because they are easy to make and always a hit. To follow is the recipe I have used for years; I've made them so many times I don't even have it written down!
6 cups Rice Krispies
1 cup sugar
1 cup Karo syrup
1 cup peanut butter (creamy)
1 bag chocolate chips
1 bag butterscotch chips
Measure Rice Krispies and put in a large bowl.
Combine sugar and syrup in a saucepan and heat on medium heat until clear and just beginning to bubble. Add peanut butter and stir until smooth.
Poor mixture over Rice Krispies and mix well, then place in a 9" x 13" cake pan. Spread mixture out and press down with spatula to flatten.
Mix chips into a microwave safe bowl. Heat for one minute, stir and then heat for one more minute. Spread melted chips over bars.
The hardest part of making these bars is cutting them! Do not put the bars in the refrigerator or let them get really cold or they will become very hard. If you aren't planning to serve the bars from the pan you can remove them from the pan in one piece and place on a cutting board and then cut using a pizza cutter.
Enjoy! Go . . . either team!
