As I mentioned in this post I'm going to be reading and reviewing twelve books in 2012 and I'm also creating a mini album to document the books. January has come and gone - wow, that was fast - and I finished my first book. I'm a member of a Book Club and this was our book pick for January so I'm including the rating we gave the book.
January book: Room by Emma Donoghue
Book Club Rating: 4 (on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest rating)
I loved this book. It's the story of a 5 year old boy and his mother being held captive in a small room. The most interesting part of the book, in my opinion, was the relationship between mother & son. As you can imagine, they have a very special relationship which changes through the book (I don't want to give too much away) and I thought the contrast was very interesting. If you are looking for a good book I would definitely recommend Room.
I spent some time over the weekend working on my Book Review Mini Album. Shown above is the inside front cover which I'm using as a title page. I used a library card for my title and then added some ephemera from my stash to decorate the page. The facing page is full of numbers to represent the number of books I plan to read. This page was made by cutting out a series of numbers using my Cricut, attaching them to the page with a small amount of adhesive and then using Walnut Ink in a spray bottle to cover the entire page. Once it was dry I carefully peeled off the numbers to show the paper beneath.
Next I moved on to document the January book. As you can see, I decided to use my handwriting to write a quick summary of the book. I don't often write in my albums but plan to do a lot of it in this album. Once the journaling was done I added some banner flags at the top of the page.
When I made this album I went ahead and adhered front and back pages together and now I'm wishing I would have waited until I finished each page to attach them. I would have liked to sew the banner flags in place but I don't want to have stitching on the previous page (the page with the numbers) so I just used adhesive to attach them instead.
For the facing page I used a small calendar for the month of January which is from everyjotandtittle. Then I cut out a butterfly using my Cricut, adhered it to the page and added some rhinestones for some sparkle.
I didn't have a ton of time to work on this over the weekend so I didn't spend as much time on it as I would have liked, but I still played around a bit and that's the whole purpose of this album for me.
